I started my homeschooling journey under less-than-ideal circumstances; two weeks prior, I had announced to friends that homeschooling “sounds like a great idea, but y’all are nuts!” Then came the first day of first grade at a new school, in a new state…and my 6-year-old begging me to homeschool him as soon as I picked him up from school. After recovering from the shock, I agreed and spent the next three days reading everything I could get my hands on about homeschooling. This is a habit I kept up for years to come; now, I put that research and time to work for you!
Over the past fourteen years, I have been a homeschool teacher (1st-12th grade), a co op teacher for elementary through high school, a curriculum representative and convention speaker across the country, and have managed the education and homeschool department of a bookstore. I have spent countless hours researching curriculum choices, organization and scheduling methods, strategies for homeschooling both gifted children and those with special needs and learning glitches (including kids who show both needs at once), learning and teaching styles, and out-of-the-box methods for teaching almost any subject. Originally, I did this in order to learn how to teach my son and my students; now, my passion is to serve and equip homeschool families.
